Twisted Pine is in a league and world of their own design. Unique is the word that comes to mind most immediately, and in all the best ways.
With a stripped down and lively Blue Grass instrumentation, Kathleen Parks on fiddle and lead vox, Dan Bui on mandolin, Chris Sartori on bass, and Anh Phung on flute, Twisted Pine flows freely along interlaced lines of Pop hooks and rhythms, soulful Orchestral and Jazz harmonies, with a stellar Jam corkscrew twist organically nestled in for good measure.
Amid the chaos and uncertainty of 2020, this passionate group produced an album, Right Now, that transports you to a place of comfort and intrigue, and has received such rave reviews as:
“An upbeat, poppy vibe; energetic, driving rhythms; virtuosic solos; tight harmonies. This is definitely a band to watch.”
“All told, this is far and away one of the best releases you’ll hear this year. (He says, trying to sound restrained when he really wants to say “Good Christ, this is fantastic!”) Is it folk? Is it jazz? Who cares. It’s exceptional. (You can hear the mothership land at the very end, too. Seriously.)”
“The one full-on bluegrass moment on the record — a cover of Tex Logan’s classic breakdown “Come Along Jody” — encapsulates what Twisted Pine is now. It starts off in driving, trad-sounding fashion, as if to say “See, we can still do that,” before flying off in new directions to proclaim “But see what we can do now!”
Come ready for a night of musical exploration to talk about for years to come.
